PEMBELAJARAN IPAS BERORIENTASI SUSTAINABILITY DALAM MEMBENTUK KARAKTER PEDULI LINGKUNGAN KELAS VI SDN LANGUNG

Abstract

The increasingly complex issue of environmental degradation demands the strengthening of sustainability-based education starting from the elementary school level. Science and natural sciences learning has a strategy as a vehicle for fostering environmentally conscious character because it substantially includes the study of nature, ecosystems, and human interactions with the environment. This article aims to examine how sustainability-oriented science and natural sciences learning can shape the environmentally conscious character of elementary school students through a literature review approach of SINTA-indexed and international scientific publications published in the 2016–2026 period. This study was conducted on five aspects, namely the concepts and principles of Education for Sustainable Development (P&K) in science and natural sciences learning, the characteristics of environmentally conscious character development in sixth-grade students of Langung Elementary School, relevant learning strategies and models, the role of teachers and school culture, and the challenges of its implementation. The results of the study indicate that integrated sustainability-oriented science and natural sciences learning through a contextual approach, project-based learning, and the habituation of environmentally conscious school culture (such as the Adiwiyata program and green schools) has proven effective in fostering environmentally conscious attitudes and behaviors in students. However, the effectiveness of its implementation is still hampered by limited teacher competence in integrating these desires, the lack of contextual principles, and weak consistent support from school policies and culture. This article recommends strengthening ESD-based teacher training, developing contextual science learning tools that incorporate sustainability, and strengthening synergies between schools, families, and communities as strategic steps to shape a generation with environmentally conscious characters from an early age
